A new TV Show, Our Children Our Future, brought to you through a collaboration with KC Schools, Suddenlink Communications, The Underprivileged Children Foundation and Jim Strawn & Company, is a monthly 30-minute television program that focuses on issues effecting children. What kids are facing in today’ society, services offered, and the fundamental rights they deserve.

Jim Strawn is the host of the show.

The show airing October 21, 2019 – October 28, 2019 at 7:30 p.m. and 7:30 a.m. features the PRO-Kids Program.

We interviewed Jill Woodrum, Director and Erin Blackmon, Assistant Director of PRO-Kids Program.

PRO-Kids, Inc. (“Project Reach Out to Kids”) is an afterschool tutoring and enrichment program which serves students from Charleston’s East End.
They are a 501(c)(3) corporation conveniently housed one block from the school within Charleston Baptist Temple, 209 Morris Street, Charleston, WV. They currently have about 50 children ages 5-12 years old enrolled, with 9 more on a growing waiting list for entry.

PRO-Kids was designed to protect and help these youngsters during the afterschool hours of 2:00-5:00 p.m. when they might otherwise be endangered by dangerous activities. Every day of the school year, their staff members meet the children inside the school at dismissal and escort them to the program, often with a detour to Celebration Station playground for exercise. Upon their arrival at our facility,  children with homework assistance/tutoring, craft time or gym time, extracurricular activities, and a balanced meal daily. They work to improve children’s self-esteem by addressing issues such as bullying, anger management, self-control, safety and nutrition. They offer field trips and outside activities such as Girl Scouts and 4H Clubs.

Chalk it up for children logo
They were recently selected to partner with The Underprivileged Children Foundation and an upcoming fundraising event, Chalk it Up for Children, which is scheduled for November 7, 2019 beginning at 5:30 at 405 Capitol Street in Charleston, WV.
Rob Cleland, a Charleston artist, is working with the PRO-Kids students to create a one-of-a-kind art piece. The students are also creating individual works for the event.
Art items will be auctioned off.
The event plans to showcase the children’s art, highlight the UCF UPLIFTED! Campaign, and have food & drink.
