Highlights is a 30 minute weekly TV show featuring organizations, events, grass-roots efforts and people who move our state and community forward in a positive way.
The show is a collaboration with Kanawha County Schools, Suddenlink Communications, and Jim Strawn & Company.
The show airs daily at 8:30 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. on Suddenlink’s channel 17.
The show airing November 1, 2021 – November 8, 2021 features Dr. Life discussing anti-aging and the Children’s Therapy Clinic.
We interviewed Dr. Jeffry S. Life, MD. He is an physician who focuses on anti-aging principles that will reduce cardiovascular and stroke disease.
Dr. Life, who operates a practice in Charleston, WV, has been selected to provide a presentation at the Age Management Medicine Group Conference on November 6, 2021 on Sarcopenia.
Sarcopenia is the loss of muscle tissue as a natural part of the aging process.
Dr. Life believes that with proper training, muscle loss can be prevented.
He advocates for: 150 minutes of cardio workout a week, resistance training at least 4 times a week, no smoking or tobacco use, eat more vegetables and cut down (or out) on the sugar intake.
A alarming statistic he educated us on is that according to the Institute of Medicine, there are 10,000 Baby Boomers turning 65 years of age everyday in America.
If we could reduce sarcopenia prevalence in these ‘boomer’, the U.S. healthcare cost savings would be $1.1 billion.
For more about Dr. Life and his practice, call him at 304-989-8494 or visit his website.
We also interviewed Valicia Leary, Executive Director of the Children’s Therapy Clinic.
Valicia has been the director since 2005.
CTC is a private, non-profit organization located in Charleston, WV. They provide comprehensive therapy to children with disabilities. If a child’s job is to grow, learn, and play, our job is to help a child be a child. They recognize that each child is unique and needs an individual treatment plan. Children’s Therapy Clinic offers a team approach to focus on each child’s needs and abilities by including parents, caregivers, family members, and other professionals involved with the child. The therapists help each child to reach his or her full potential and help create the little miracles of a child’s first step or word.
They are a United Way funded agency also relying on grants and support from the community.
Their annual Light the Way 5K is set for November 19, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. at Coonskin Park.
