Highlights: From the Heart of Our Community, is a 30 minute weekly TV show featuring organizations, events, grass-roots efforts and people who move our state and community forward in a positive way.
The show is a collaboration with Kanawha County Schools, Suddenlink Communications and Jim Strawn & Company.
The show airs daily at 8:30 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. on Suddenlink’s channel 17.
The show airing April 23, 2018 –  April 30, 2018 ‘highlights’ the WV State University Flag Football Tournament to benefit Walking Miracles, Appalachian Academy and their upcoming 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament and Rea of Hope.
We interviewed WV State University Head Coach, John Pennington along with the Director of Football Operations, Quincy Wilson. They discussed their football program then discussed their 2nd Annual Flag Football Tournament to benefit Walking Miracles Family Foundation.
Walking Miracles Family Foundation is a 501c3 non profit that helps families and survivors of childhood adolescent and young adult cancer in WV by connecting them to referral networks and resources during their cancer journey and helps to help defray the costs of travel.
The Flag Football tournament is set for Friday, May 4, 2018 beginning at 2:00 p.m. at WVSU Football Complex. Contact George Shehl at George.Shehl@WVStateU.edu.
The event is Co-Ed consisting of 7 Players, 2 of which are female.
We also talked with Tuesday Taylor, Youth Director for Appalachian Academy.
Appalachian Academy is an inter-organizational collaboration between Pollen8, Inc., the city of South Charleston, Rock Lake Presbyterian Church, St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, and Bridgeview and Richmond Elementary. The partnerships seek to improve the lives and educational attainment of children in the South Charleston (Kanawha County) communities who live below the poverty line. Rock Lake Presbyterian Church donated their Community Life Center at 801 Lincoln Drive in South Charleston (former Rock Lake Pool and Putt-Putt). The Community Life Center is a secured 9,966.30 square foot building with an art room, game room, stage, library, full kitchen, and access to 3.9 acres of outside play space.
Tuesday spoke passionately about their upcoming 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament scheduled for April 28th beginning at 10:00 a.m. at South Charleston Recreation Center.

We also spoke with Elaine Secrist,  Associate Director of Rea of Hope, regarding their upcoming fundraier dinner scheduled for Thursday May 3, 2018 beginning at 6:00 p.m. at the Clay Center in Charleston, WV.
Rea of Hope Inc. is celebrating Thirteen years of outstanding service to West Virginia women and their families! Join us as we host our annual spring fundraiser, the “Miracles on Lee Street” Dinner and Silent Auction. The mission of Rea of Hope is to provide safe, affordable housing for West Virginia women in a positive homelike environment that is focused on recovery from alcohol and/or drug addiction and the development of self-sufficiency. Over 190 women have successfully completed our program in the thirteen years we have been open.
