Highlights TV Show Features University of Charleston

Highlights is a 30 minute weekly TV show featuring organizations, events, grass-roots efforts and people who move our state and community forward in a positive way.

The show is a collaboration with Kanawha County Schools, Suddenlink Communications, and Jim Strawn & Company.

The show airs daily at 8:30 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. on Suddenlink’s channel 17.

The show airing August 23, 2021 – August 30, 2021 features the University of Charleston.

We interviewed their President, Dr. Marty Roth.

Dr. Roth talk about the mission of UC and how those pillars drive all they do.

The Mission of the University of Charleston is to educate each student for a life of productive work, enlightened living and community involvement.

With the pandemic shutting operations down in 2020, we discussed how UC was able to transcend and keep things going as well as any institution.

Some of the highlights we touched on include:

  • International recruitment
  • Athletics (19 Ment’s and Women’s Team sports)
  • Programs
  • Tuition
  • Success of students passing certain licensing after graduation
  • Innovation Center
  • New Boat House
  • Labor of Love
  • UC Night at the Levee

As he begins his 4th year at UC, Dr. Roth expressed his gratitude to the community of Charleston for welcoming he and his wife. They both sense the importance UC has on this City and appreciate the pride folks take in their city university.
