Highlights: From the Heart of Our Community, is a 30 minute weekly TV show featuring organizations, events, grass-roots efforts and people who move our state and community forward in a positive way.
The show is a collaboration with Kanawha County Schools, Suddenlink Communications and Jim Strawn & Company.
The show airs daily at 8:30 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. on Suddenlink’s channel 17.
The show airing December 11, 2017 – December 18, 2017 ‘highlights’ the University of Charleston MBA Program, WV Collegiate Business Plan Competition, and Goodwill of Kanawha Valley.
We interviewed Rick Ferris, Ph. D., Director MBA Program for UC.
He talked about the program, its uniqueness, their features, curriculum etc. The business world is constantly changing, and those who can adapt with skill have a distinct advantage. We also interviewed David Ramsburg, Director of Innovation at University of Charleston and Angela Addair, Assistant Professor of Management at Concord University about the WV Collegiate Business Plan Competition.
David talked about the mission and history of the competition. The West Virginia Collegiate Business Plan Competition affords students around the state the unique opportunity to make a business idea come to life with the support of state institutions of higher education and seasoned business professionals from around the country.
There are various rounds throughout the year culminating with 13 finalists. The winner is awarded $10,000.00!
Angela discussed one of her students, who is one of the 14 finialists. She expressed the growth, experience and opportunity it is for the students who participate in this competition.
The final competion is held at WVU on April 20, 2018.
We also talked with Kathy McKinley, Director of Community Relations at Goodwill of Kanawha Valley. She talked about their mission, which is to assist people with disabilities or those who are otherwise vocationally disadvantaged to achieve full participation and integration into society.
