Highlights is a 30 minute weekly TV show featuring organizations, events, grass-roots efforts and people who move our state and community forward in a positive way.

The show is a collaboration with Kanawha County Schools, Suddenlink Communications and Jim Strawn & Company.

The show airs daily at 8:30 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. on Suddenlink’s channel 17.

The show airing February 28, 2020 – March 9, 2020 highlights the WV Senior Sports Classic.

We interviewed Harold Vealey, President of the WV Senior Sports Classic.

This is the 27th Annual WVSSC. It is set for June 11-13 & 26-27, 2020 in and around the Kanawha Valley and Shepardstown, WV.

The 27th Annual West Virginia Senior Sports Classic June 11-13, 2020 with Pickleball and Swimming to be held June 26, 27, 2020. The WVSSC is affiliated with the National Senior Games Association which sponsors the National Senior Games held every two years.

They are a non-profit organization created to promote and create interest in lifetime sports, recreation and physical exercise as a means of enhancing one’s quality of life.  They sponsor an annual fitness event with several events for older adults 50 years of age and older.

The West Virginia Senior Sports Classic is a member of the National Senior Games Association. The NSGA spearheads the senior games movement, sanctioning, and coordinating efforts in 50 states. A community-based member of the United States Olympic Committee, the NSGA serves as one of the USOC’s official arms to the senior population.  The NSGA is a not-for-profit organization that is dedicated to promoting healthy lifestyles for seniors through education, fitness and sports.

The West Virginia Senior Sports Classic follows the commitments of the NSGA by giving seniors the opportunity to achieve greater value and quality in their lives by staying healthy, active and fit. The Games are a great socialization event that offer opportunities to meet new people and provide fun, friendly competition.

Registration is only $35 for 2 events. That includes dinner at the Kickoff Banquet at 6:00 p.m. on June 12th at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Charleston, WV.

All participants in individual and team events must be 50 years of age or older on or before December 31, 2020. The age divisions for the WVSSC will be determined by your age on December 31, 2020 for both team and individual sports. The age divisions will be as listed for both men and women: 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80-84, 85-89, 90-94, 95-99, 100+. All must compete in their own age group except in doubles or team play when the younger player determines the age group. Proof of age may be required.
