Highlights is a 30 minute weekly TV show featuring organizations, events, grass-roots efforts and people who move our state and community forward in a positive way.
The show is a collaboration with Kanawha County Schools, Optimum Communications and Jim Strawn & Company.
The show airs daily at 8:30 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. on Optimum’s channel 17.
The show airing October 23, 2023 – October 30, 2023 features the West Virginia Golf Association, the First Tee of WV, and the Par-Tee Fundraiser scheduled for November 11, 2023 at the Embassy Suites in Charleston WV beginning at 7:00 PM.
We interviewed Jeff Preast, Executive Director of First Tee-WV and Danielle Monk, Director of Finance & Administration for the WVGA.
Jeff gave us an overview of the WV Golf Association.
They are dedicated to promoting and preserving the game of golf in West Virginia. The Association was founded in 1913 as the West Virginia District Golf Association. Their membership consists of 85 Member Clubs and over 11,000 individual golfers throughout the state of West Virginia. They also serve as a central source of information for the Member Clubs.
Danielle talked about her path and her role with the 5-employee team at the WVGA.
She also gave us an overview of their VIP program.
Jeff then discussed the First Tee Foundation and the Program.
First Tee enables kids to build the strength of character that empowers them through a lifetime of new challenges. By seamlessly integrating the game of golf with life skills curriculum, it creates learning experiences that build inner strength, self-confidence, and resilience that kids carry to everything they do.
There is 8 locations around the state participating in the program.
The Par-Tee Fundraiser presented by John L. Dickinson Family Foundation will benefit the First Tee Foundation. The event is open to the public and promises to be a great time complete with delicious foods, spirited beverages, auction items, dancing with DJ Nick Scott, and raising monies for a wonderful 501c3 nonprofit organization.
