Highlights is a 30 minute weekly TV show featuring organizations, events, grass-roots efforts and people who move our state and community forward in a positive way.
The show is a collaboration with Kanawha County Schools, Suddenlink Communications, and Jim Strawn & Company.
The show airs daily at 8:30 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. on Suddenlink’s channel 17.
The show airing May 31, 2021 – June 14, 2021 features the West Virginia Senior Sports Classic.
We interviewed Harold Vealey, President of the WV Senior Sports Classic. He talked excitedly about the return of the WV Senior Games scheduled for 3 weekends in July 2021 in and around Charleston, WV. He gave us an overview of the WVSSC.
The West Virginia Senior Sports Classic is a member of the National Senior Games Association. (Harold is a member of the National Board of Directors). The NSGA spearheads the senior games movement, sanctioning, and coordinating efforts in 50 states. A community-based member of the United States Olympic Committee, the NSGA serves as one of the USOC’s official arms to the senior population. The NSGA is a not-for-profit organization that is dedicated to promoting healthy lifestyles for seniors through education, fitness and sports.
The West Virginia Senior Sports Classic follows the commitments of the NSGA by giving seniors the opportunity to achieve greater value and quality in their lives by staying healthy, active and fit. The Games are a great socialization event that offer opportunities to meet new people and provide fun, friendly competition.
This is a qualifying year for the National Games in WV this July.
Sports being offered by the WV Senior Sports Classic in 2021 include: Golf, PickleBall, Softball, Basketball, Track & Field, Bowling, Cycling (10K), 5K run, Swimming, Volleyball, Table Tennis, Tennis, & Racquetball (in Shephardstown, WV).
