Highlights is a 30 minute weekly TV show featuring organizations, events, grass-roots efforts and people who move our state and community forward in a positive way.
The show is a collaboration with Kanawha County Schools, Suddenlink Communications, and Jim Strawn & Company.
The show airs daily at 8:30 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. on Suddenlink’s channel 17.
The show airing November 16, 2020 – November 30, 2020 features the Salvation Army of Charleston.
We interviewed Major Brooks Gilliam of the Salvation Army. He talked about his path to the Army. He is a native West Virginian who was assigned to various states before returning home 13 years ago. He has led the Charleston Area Command for 5 years.
He discussed the mission and 168 history of the Salvation Army. The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. Its message is based on the Bible. Serving Kanawha, Putnam, Roane, Clay, Boone, Logan & Mingo counties in West Virginia, their goal is to meet human need in the name of Christ in an uncomplicated but necessary way.
Major Gilliam talked about the Red Kettle Program, which was launched on November 6th at the Town Center Mall in Charleston, WV.
This year Salvation Army has kicked off #RescueChristmas, a global movement as more people are in need this year. Click here to view a short video from SA.
They have seen a 400% increase in need since March due to COVID-19. They have over 1700 children relying on them for Christmas this year.
The Red Kettle program goal is $180,000.00.
The SA is looking for volunteer ‘Bell Ringers’.
