Highlights TV Show Features South Charleston Chamber & CVB and Sojourner’s Spring Style Show

Highlights is a 30 minute weekly TV show featuring organizations, events, grass-roots efforts and people who move our state and community forward in a positive way.

The show is a collaboration with Kanawha County Schools, Suddenlink Communications and Jim Strawn & Company.

Highlights airs daily at 8:30 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. on Suddenlink’s channel 17.

The show airing March 28, 2022 – April 4, 2022 highlights the South Charleston Chamber of Commerce, the SC CVB and YWCA Sojourner’s Shelter Spring Style Show.

We interviewed Amanda Ream, Executive Director of the South Charleston Chamber of Commerce and Vicki Vaughan, Executive Director of the South Charleston Convention & Visitors Bureau.

Amanda discussed the mission of the Chamber.

Thry are a network of individuals, businesses, and government working together to promote and enhance businesses in the greater South Charleston area and throughout West Virginia. The Chamber strives to seek out and welcome new businesses into the area and works to create business opportunities for local merchants by sponsoring major annual events.  They work aggressively and cooperatively with city officials to create an atmosphere conducive to business by addressing the needs of both retailers and customers.

Amanda informed us a few upcoming events sponsored by the chamber.

On April 2, 2022 at Oakes Field, the 8th Annual Wellness 5K Run/Walk will unfold. Registration is $30 after March 24th.  Register 4 or more people (over the age of 13) at the same time & receive $5 off each entrant’s registration fee.  Registration for ages 13 and under is $20.

She also promoted their Community Shred & E-Cycling event in conjunction with the Better Business Bureau. On April 30, 2022 from 9-1:00 p.m. at the SC Memorial Ice Arena at 20 RHL Blvd in Southridge, bring your old electronics for proper disposal. Call 330-454-9401 for more information.

Amanda also mentioned on an Interactive Murder Mystery Dinner Theater at Holiday Inn & Suites on May 13th beginning at 7:00 p.m.

Vicki discussed the SC CVB and their role in the community.

Bringing the community together with events, food, and conferences.

Vicki talked about a few upcoming events they are sponsoring.

The will be an Easter Egg Hunt for children 6 and under on April 16th at Joplin Park in So. Charleston beginning at 1:00.

She also reminded us that the longest standing Armed Forces Day Parade in America is happening again on May 21, 2022 down D Street in So. Chas. It begins at noon.

Also joining us on the set were Margaret Taylor, Program Director at the YWCA Sojourner’s Shelter and Cathryn Harris, Committee member for the Friends of Sojourner’s Style Show.

Margaret discussed the importance of the Sojourner’s Shelter.

The host of Highlights TV Show, Jim Strawn, thanked Margaret for her 33 years of unwavering support and dedicated service to the Sojourner’s Shelter, as she is retiring on March 31st.

Job well done. Bless you. And good luck in retirement, you have earned it.

Cathryn discussed their upcoming 32nd Annual Friends of Sojourner’s Style Show set for April 2nd at the Woman’s Club of Charleston.

They are excited to be back in-person for the annual Friends of Sojourner’s Style Show. Show begins at 11:30AM for lunch, mimosas, and a fashion show featuring looks from local fashion retailers!

All proceeds benefit YWCA Sojourner’s Shelter for Homeless Women & Families. Tickets are $40. Purchuse HERE.
