Highlights is a 30 minute weekly TV show featuring organizations, events, grass-roots efforts and people who move our state and community forward in a positive way.
The show is a collaboration with Kanawha County Schools, Suddenlink Communications, and Jim Strawn & Company.
The show airs daily at 8:30 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. on Suddenlink’s channel 17.
The show airing April 26, 2021 – May 10, 2021 features the South Charleston Armed Forces Day Parade and the Tyler Mountain Volunteer Fire Department.
We interviewed Elvin Davis, WWII Veteran, and Purple Heart Recipient. Mr. Davis is the Parade Marshall for the 61st Armed Forces Day Parade presented by the South Charleston Convention & Visitors Bureau schedule for Saturday, May 15, 2021 beginning at 12:00 p.m.
Mr. Davis talked about being in the Army, his experience during the war and being injured in combat on Christmas Day 1945. He is now 96 years old.
With Mr. Davis was Dan Linear, Army Reserve Ambassador for West Virginia. He talked about his appreciation to Mr. Davis and ALL the Veterans of WW II for their service.
He also has been a part of the Armed Forces Day Parade for many years and encouraged folks to come and pay tribute to the Mr. Davis’s of the world.

We also interviewed Chief Justin Alford and Firefighter Jamie Bero of the Tyler Mountain Volunteer Fire Department.
Chief Alford discussed the department. Tyler Mountain Volunteer Fire Department was established in 1951 and is located at 5380 Big Tyler Road in Cross Lanes, WV.25313. They serve the Tyler Mountain / Cross Lanes area. As a service to our community they respond to many different types of Fire Emergencies, Auto Accidents, ATV Off Road Situation and any call that poses an immediate threat to Life, Health or Property Damage. They also provide first responders that respond to Medical Emergencies and provide basic life support until medical units arrive.
They are in the midst of recruiting new fighters.Jamie discussed her role as a volunteer fighter. And encourage all ages to fill our an application.
Chief Alford discussed the training process. They especially encouraged females to apply.
