The show is a collaboration with Kanawha County Schools, Suddenlink Communications and Jim Strawn & Company.
Highlights airs daily at 8:30 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. on Suddenlink’s channel 17.
The show airing February 14, 2022 – February 21, 2022 highlights the National Youth Advocate Program.
We interviewed Jillian Valentine, Program Manager on NYAP WV, and Lisa Bruer, Licensing Cordinator.
Jillian talked about what NYAP is all about.
They have a non-negotiable commitment to do what is best for children, youth and their families and have an abiding faith that every person has an innate ability to learn, grow and develop. NYAP provides opportunities and resources to youth and families through our innovative programs and services, and they strongly support and offer guidance to their dedicated foster parents. This organization works hard to build community support and advocate with public agencies and officials on behalf of youth and families. The group is united by humanity and enriched by our diversity and are committed to supporting and protecting youth and families and to strengthening the communities they are proud to serve.
In WV, they have offices in Winfield and Beckley.
Lisa discussed the licensing procedure and how they recruit foster parents. All adults 21+ (In some cases even younger) are qualified to become a foster parent.
