We interviewed Jeff Taylor, President and Michelle Lewis, Partnership Chair of Leave a Legacy of Central Appalachia.
Jeff discussed the purpose of Leave a Legacy.
The mission of Leave a Legacy of Central Appalachia is to educate and inspire people from all walks of life to make gifts to their favorite charities through their wills.
We all know that charitable organizations rely on donations. People give to make a difference in the lives of others.
Protect your family’s future through your estate planning. Remember the many good things that your favorite nonprofit organizations accomplish and support them in this special way through your will.
The communities of Central Appalachia provide a very caring place to live. Many people volunteer regularly and give financially to the charitable or non-profit organizations of their choice… But when they’re gone, their support is greatly missed.
By leaving a legacy of any size through a gift in your will, or a gift from your estate, you can continue to help organizations that are making an important difference in the quality of life in the communities of West Virginia, Southeastern Ohio and Eastern Kentucky.
WV Governor Jim Justice has proclaimed that Wills Week is October 14-20, 2018.
We also talked with Kelly Thompson, Director and Kylee Hassan, Development with Mission WV. Kelly gave an overview of Mission WV; they change the lives of youth and families. They promote positive futures by recruiting foster families, providing life skills education and creating community connections.
They operate 2 major programs: THINK and Frameworks. Teaching Health Instead of Nagging Kids (THINK) is their program that focuses on adolescents and their health. The program provides education to adolescents in West Virginia on issues related to teen pregnancy prevention, making healthy decisions, and positive relationship development.
Frameworks is their program that finds families for children waiting in the foster care system. They believe all children are adoptable and deserving of a permanent, loving and safe family. Their efforts include recruiting families to foster/adopt, helping families to navigate the certification process and providing support to kinship caregivers.
Kylee talked about their upcoming fundraising art auction, Giving Back With HeART. The event is scheduled for Tuesday, October 16, 2018 beginning at 6:00 p.m. in the WV Culture Center. The event is a collaboration with the WV Department of Corrections. All the artwork is created and donated by inmates from Mount Olive.
The event is FREE to attend.
