Highlights is a 30 minute weekly TV show featuring organizations, events, grass-roots efforts and people who move our state and community forward in a positive way.
The show is a collaboration with Kanawha County Schools, Optimum Communications and Jim Strawn & Company.
The show airs daily at 8:30 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. on Optimum’s channel 17.
The show airing September 11, 2023 – September 18, 2023 features Leah’ Legacy.
We interviewed Mike & Emily Strickland, parents of Leah Strickland who was sadly and tragically fatally injured in an automoble accident on August 31, 2922.
She was a student at Herbert Hoover High School and played on the girls soccer team.
They have started a Leah Strickland Memorial Scholarship Fund.
They discussed an upcoming event to raise necessary monies for the fund.
Details of the Event:
The scholarship was originally intended for female athletes only at Herbert Hoover High School, but after seeing Leah’s impact on so many athletes at Hoover and throughout the community, we are wanting to add more scholarships to include male athletes as well.

- Top Masters Male & Female (40+)
- Age Groups (Top Male & Female runners) 8 & under, 9-11, 12-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, 80-89
- Top 3 Fastest Adult Teams (Minimum of 5 members-must be co-ed)
- Top 3 Schools with largest participation. (Make sure to select school in team category)
