Highlights: From the Heart of Our Community, is a 30 minute weekly TV show featuring organizations, events, grass-roots efforts and people who move our state and community forward in a positive way.
The show is a collaboration with Kanawha County Schools, Suddenlink Communications and Jim Strawn & Company.
The show airs daily at 8:30 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. on Suddenlink’s channel 17.
The show airing March 20, 2017-March 27, 2017 ‘highlights’ KVC Health Systems and Big Brothers Big Sister of South Central WV.
We interviewed Alex Mahaffey, Community Resource Specialist, with KVC Health Systems. She talked about their mission and purpose. KVC West Virginia is a private, nonprofit child welfare organization that provides a diverse array of services including foster care, adoption, in-home family preservation services, and outpatient psychiatric and behavioral healthcare. In partnership with the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources Bureau for Children and Families, we utilize the Safe at Home West Virginia program to maximize the benefits of home and community-based services for children in out-of-home care. We are committed to enriching and enhancing the lives of West Virginia children and families.
Alex also talked how to become a Foster Parent.
We also talked with Sara McDowell, Executive Director, Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Central WV.
She discussed the importance of their mentoring program, their 2017 fundraising event schedule and their upcoming Bowl for Kids Sake event.
Bowl for Kids Sake is set for April 29, 2017 at Town n County Lanes in Nitro, WV from 4-10:00 p.m.
