Highlights: From the Heart of Our Community, is a 30 minute weekly TV show featuring organizations, events, grass-roots efforts and people who move our state and community forward in a positive way.
The show is a collaboration with Kanawha County Schools, Suddenlink Communications and Jim Strawn & Company.
The show airs daily at 8:30 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. on Suddenlink’s channel 17.
The show airing March 13, 2017-March 20, 2017 ‘highlights’ the Alzheimer’s Association & the Children’s Home Society.
We interviewed Bethany Hall, Executive Director, Alzheimer’s Association of WV and Nikki Kinder, Special Events Coordinator.
Bethany discussed the mission and purpose of the Alzheimer’s Association. The Alzheimer’s Association, West Virginia Chapter is the only voluntary health organization in West Virginia solely dedicated to providing education and support service to individuals with Alzheimer’s and other dementias, to their families and caregivers. They serve all 55 counties in West Virginia and six counties in eastern Ohio. Their mission is to eliminate Alzheimer’s disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health.
Nikki talked about their upcoming fundraising luncheon, A Reason to Hope, scheduled for Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at the Four Points by Sheraton.
The Alzheimer’s Association will be presenting The Legacy Award to U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito for her unwavering support of caregivers and championing of legislation that offers solutions and support to the 5.4 million Americans and 37,000 West Virginians living with Alzheimer’s. They are also presenting the Champion of Hope Award to Susie Casto, a volunteer who has led the way to hope by stepping-up, speaking-out and providing support for so many West Virginia and Ohio families.

Tom talked about the upcoming WV Expo scheduled for March 22-23, 2017 at the Charleston Civic Center.
The WV Expo EXPO for Design, Construction & Engineering, has become a meeting ground for numerous trade associations and professional societies. Chris discussed an event in conjunction with the WV Expo, the first Wing Eating Challenge scheduled for Tuesday March 21, 2017 beginning at 7:00 p.m. at Adelphia Sports Bar & Grill.
The event hopes to raise $40,000 for Children’s Home Society. They are the largest child welfare nonprofit in West Virginia. The society cared for 14,605 children and families last year, providing care from 13 locations to all 55 counties.
