Highlights: From the Heart of Our Community, is a 30 minute weekly TV show featuring organizations, events, grass-roots efforts and people who move our state and community forward in a positive way.
The show is a collaboration with Kanawha County Schools, Suddenlink Communications and Jim Strawn & Company.
The show airs daily at 8:30 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. on Suddenlink’s channel 17.
The show airing July 16, 2018 – July 30, 2018 ‘highlights’ the 9000 To None Initiative and the 29th Annual Multifest.
We interviewed Sara McDowell, Coordinator of 9000 To None Iniative. She talked about their purpose.
Since 2001, 9000 West Virginians have died from drug overdose. We’ve lost sisters and brothers, sons and daughters. It’s taken mothers and fathers and left children without parents, and parents without children. An increasing number of West Virginia youth are left in the care of their grandparents or other kinship care. Many others are forced into foster care. A growing number of youth in the Mountain State want – and need – positive role models in their lives to help them believe, achieve and succeed.
9,000 to None is a collaboration of nonprofits, communities in West Virginia, and the private sector with one singular focus: prevention. Our goal is to eliminate addiction and overdose deaths in West Virginia by helping our children live happier lives today and be successful, drug-free adults in the future.
Charter members of the coalition include: KCTC, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and YMCA.

We also interviewed Dallas Staples, President, of Multifest. He talked about their upcoming 29th Annual event scheduled to unfold at Haddad Riverfront Park on August3-5, 2018.
Dallas spoke proudly about the event. Multifest is a highly anticipated event in West Virginia that brings together various cultural and ethnic communities in an atmosphere of tolerance and good will through art, music, education, cultural programs and cuisine.
The Multi-Cultural Festival of West Virginia seeks to enrich the lives of those we serve-our sponsors, our vendors and our community-by providing a venue to celebrate diversity for all citizens throughout our region through art, music, education, cultural programs and cuisine.
