Highlights: From the Heart of Our Community, is a 30 minute weekly TV show featuring organizations, events, grass-roots efforts and people who move our state and community forward in a positive way.
The show is a collaboration with Kanawha County Schools, Suddenlink Communications and Jim Strawn & Company.
The show airs daily at 8:30 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. on Suddenlink’s channel 17.
The show airing March 11, 2019 – March 18, 2019 ‘highlights’ the 7th Annual WV Fox Trot to raise research funds for the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson Research and the Children’s Home Society and their upcoming Wing Eating Challenge in conjunction with the WV Expo.
We interviewed Missy Spangler, Team Fox and Connie Jones, Captain Team Momma Jones.
They discussed the details of the upcoming Fox Trot scheduled for Saturday, March 23, 2019 at 9:00 (registration from 8-9:00) at the Capitol Market in Charleston, WV.
They both have teams in support the MJF Foundation. Connie is diagnosed with Parkinsons while Missy lost her father due to complications of Parkinson’s.
Following the Fox Trot they encouraged everyone to stick around for the annual Green Chili Shootout at the Capitol Market from 11-3:00. A portion of those proceeds also benefit the MJF Foundation.

We also interviewed Chris Freeman, Director of Communications for Children’s Home Society and Cassidy Webb, Communications Manager for the WV Expo.
Chris talked about Children’s Home Society. They are a private, non-profit child welfare organization founded in 1896. The Society is a participatory organization consisting of employees, foster families, adoptive families, volunteers, Board members, Directors Emeriti, advisory council members, donors, benefactors, supporters, and friends. We are governed by a volunteer Board of Directors that is representative of the communities we serve from around the state. We are licensed to provide child welfare and behavioral health services in West Virginia. We are a member agency of the West Virginia Alliance for Children, the Child Welfare League of America and we are fully accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Services for Families and Children.
Comprehensive child welfare, behavioral health, social casework and advocacy services are provided to over 6,887 children each year from twelve primary locations throughout the state. Some of our current programs are adoption, foster care, in-home and in-community services for children and families, emergency shelter care, respite, mediation, parent education training, prenatal and early childhood services, volunteer and mentoring, youth services, visitation and reunification, school based social work, day care and comprehensive assessment services.
They are having a fundraising WIng Eating Challenge on March 19th beginning at 7:00 p.m. at Adelphia’s on Capital Street in Charleston, WV.
It is in conjunction with the 40th WV Expo, which is the region’s largest trade show for the Construction and Design industries.
Cassidy talked about the exhibitors, lectures, receptions and demonstrations that will take place at the Charleston Convention Center.
