Highlights is a 30 minute weekly TV show featuring organizations, events, grass-roots efforts and people who move our state and community forward in a positive way.

The show is a collaboration with Kanawha County Schools, Suddenlink Communications and Jim Strawn & Company.

The show airs daily at 8:30 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. on Suddenlink’s channel 17.

The show airing July 15, 2019 –  July 22, 2019 highlights the YWCA Resolve Family Abuse Program and the upcoming 21st Annual Girls Night Out event.

We interviewed Julie Haden, Program Director of the YWCA Resolve Family Abuse Program, Joyce Richmond, a domestic violence survior, and Karen Farmer, Chair of the Girls Night Out event.

Julie talked about the Resolve program. The YWCA Resolve Family Abuse Program offers 24/7 shelter, a crisis hotline and emergency intervention for victims of domestic violence. Providing services for the entire family in Kanawha, Clay and Boone counties, YWCA Resolve also offers case management, court advocacy, counseling, support groups, safety planning, monitored parent-child visitation/exchange, programs for children, and teen dating safety. Licensed by the West Virginia Family Protection Services Board, our mission is to eliminate domestic violence through leadership, education, empowerment and community collaboration.

Joyce described her situation from 8 years ago as she was brutally beaten by her husband. After a long and trying ordeal, she received help from a domestic violence recovery center.

She is doing very well now and enjoys her grandchildren.

Karen discussed details for the upcoming 21st Annual Girls Night Out to benefit the Resolve Family Abuse Program. The theme this is year is ‘Tropic Like it’s Hot’. Again this year, the event is set for the Charleston Convention Center on August 10, 2019.
