Highlights tv show

Highlights is a 30 minute weekly TV show featuring organizations, events, grass-roots efforts and people who move our state and community forward in a positive way.

The show is a collaboration with Kanawha County Schools, Optimum Communications and Jim Strawn & Company.

The show airs daily at 8:30 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. on Optimum’s channel 17.

The show airing November 6, 2023 – November 13, 2023 features to 54th Capital City Art & Craft brought to you by the Kanawha City Lions Club.

We interviewed John Robertson of the KC Lions Club and the Show Chair.

Kanawha City Lions Club

John discussed to mission of the Lions Club which lends support to numerous nonprofit organizations throughout the year. Primarily they assist those, especially children, with sight issues.

He also discussed the clubs humble beginnings with show which began as an outdoor event in 1967. But eventually moved indoor to its current location, the Charleston Convention Center’s Grand Hall.

Capital City Art & Craft Show Times

The show will be open from 2 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 17; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 18; and noon until 5 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 19.

The yearly show has raised more than $1.6 million for Lions’ projects and area charities, while showcasing hundreds of original products for home, yard and garden decorating; dinner tables; desserts; and holiday (or year-round) gift giving.

Who Will Be There

“Each year, the Convention Center is filled to the brim with high-quality, original items at affordable prices,” John said. “Nearly 160 booths featuring the creative talents of artisans from six states will be on display, featuring traditional to contemporary treasures, including jewelry, pottery, woodwork, holiday decorations, fine art, photography, metal sculpture, quilting, textiles, and more.

“For many people, it’s an annual ritual to spend the day seeing their favorite exhibitors and meeting new ones,” Robertson added. “You can be entertained, as well, watching and learning from craftsmen doing their work.”

Children Activities

He also discussed the activities for the children including color contest and letter writing to Santa.

Community Partnerships

John also talked about the partnership with Union Mission and WCHS TV8/Fox 11. If you bring a nonperishable item (or several) and donate to the Union Mission Food Drive, you will receive a $1.00 off coupon off admission into the event.

They are also collecting used tennis shoes which will also get you a $1 off coupon to admission. (Only one coupon per campaign).

Attendees can win craftsmen-provided door prizes which are drawn continually. The first 250 attendees each day are given “Lions Buck” coupons for discounts. Children can participate in a coloring contest and send their letters to Santa. The Appalachian Children’s Choir will entertain on Saturday at 2 PM.

Again, Show times are 2 PM – 7 PM on Friday, November 17, 10 AM – 6 PM on Saturday, November 18 and noon – 5 PM on Sunday, November 19.

Admission is $6 for adults and $2 for children under 12.
