Charleston, WV – September 18, 2025 – Habitat for Humanity of Kanawha & Putnam is excited to announce the commencement of a new home construction at 906 Grant Street in Charleston, West Virginia with a special ceremony. This groundbreaking ceremony acknowledges Habitat’s continuing efforts to help revitalize the West Side neighborhood of Charleston.

The ceremony will take place on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at 10:00 AM at 906 Grant Street. This event is open to the public, and we invite community members, donors, and volunteers to join us in celebrating this milestone.

From the CEO

“We are thrilled to begin this project, which is a testament to the power of community collaboration and the dedication of our volunteers and supporters,” said Dr. Andrew Blackwood, Executive Director and CEO of Habitat for Humanity of Kanawha & Putnam. “This build represents more than just a new home; it renews our commitment to proving access to affordable housing.” The new home at 906 Grant Street is part of a larger initiative to rebuild and rejuvenate once thriving areas of the city. Working closely with the Charleston Land Reuse Agency (CLRA), Habitat for Humanity aims to provide affordable housing opportunities and promote sustainable community development.

The CLRA has provided financial incentives to support the project, although additional funding is
needed to complete the build. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from local officials, learn more about the project’s impact, and participate in the ceremonial groundbreaking. Media interviews will be available following the ceremony.
